CaliNote Privacy Policy

Effective October 17, 2026

This policy describes the new native CaliNote 0.1.0 beta for Mac, iPhone and iPad. Earlier builds may use a different storage workflow; do not migrate important data into this beta without a backup.

CaliNote is a local-first Markdown notes application for Apple platforms. This policy explains what the app accesses, where that information goes, and the choices available to you.

Provider and contact

CaliNote is provided by York Global Commerce Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 15922323. We are responsible for the support correspondence and testing feedback described here. Support contact: Jiaxin Peng. Telephone: +447762997429. Email: jxp@yorkglobal.co.uk. Postal address: The Storage Team, Monks Cross Drive, York, YO32 9GZ, United Kingdom.

Summary

CaliNote does not require an account and has no developer-operated server receiving your notes. The app does not include advertising, third-party analytics SDKs, or cross-app tracking. Support correspondence and TestFlight information are described separately below. Notes are stored locally in the app’s own data directory. Optional iCloud sync is described below.

Information handled by the app

Notes, planning records, and settings

CaliNote reads and writes notes, tasks, planning records and related metadata that you create or import. Markdown content, indexes, preferences and app-owned records are stored on your device in the app’s data directory. Importing a file gives the app access to the content you select; it does not make that file’s folder the default note store.

Optional iCloud sync

Sync is off by default. If you enable it, CaliNote uses your Apple account’s private CloudKit database to sync note content and associated planning records, including integration links and identifiers where applicable. This is not synchronisation through a user-selected iCloud Drive folder. The app does not send this content to a developer-operated server. Apple’s handling of iCloud information is governed by Apple’s terms and privacy policy. Two-device sync validation for this beta is incomplete; use synthetic content only.

Calendar and Reminders

Connections are optional. With your permission, CaliNote reads selected calendars and reminder lists and creates or updates items when you request those actions. System permission may cover more sources than you select in CaliNote. You can revoke it in Apple settings. Basic note editing does not require these permissions. Calendar and reminder providers may sync their own records; associated planning links may also be included in optional CaliNote CloudKit sync.

Information you choose to share

Exported notes, screenshots and feedback leave the app when you choose to share them using another app or TestFlight. Review the content before sharing it. This beta does not promise an automatically redacted diagnostic export.

Data collection, tracking, and advertising

CaliNote does not automatically upload your notes, Calendar items, or Reminders to the developer. CaliNote does not track you across apps or websites, sell personal data, or use personal data for advertising. The app does not use a developer-operated analytics or crash-reporting service.

Apple may process App Store, iCloud, device diagnostic, and other platform information independently under Apple’s privacy policy and your Apple settings.

Support correspondence and TestFlight

When you send a support email, we receive your email address, description, and any screenshots or diagnostic reports you choose to include. We use this information to answer your request and investigate problems, not for advertising. Remove private notes, account passwords, and unrelated personal information before sending.

When you use a TestFlight beta, Apple automatically collects crash logs and usage information and shares them with us, separately from the optional diagnostic settings for the public release. Apple also forwards feedback and screenshots you submit, and may provide your name or email depending on the invitation and feedback method. We use TestFlight information only to improve CaliNote and do not share testing information with third parties. See Apple’s TestFlight privacy information.

We process information necessary for support to perform a contract or take steps at your request. We rely on our legitimate interests, balanced against your rights, to investigate faults and maintain reliable support records. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests. Apple and email providers process information within their own services; disclosure to authorised bodies may be required by law. Services may operate outside your region, with applicable safeguards where legally required.

We retain support information only as long as needed to handle requests, investigate problems, or meet legal obligations, then delete or anonymise information no longer needed. Records on Apple’s platform follow Apple’s retention rules. Email us to ask about or request deletion of information we hold.

Storage, retention, and deletion

Local notes, preferences, indexes and app-owned records remain until removed through the app or device storage controls. Removing an app does not necessarily remove exported files, backups or CloudKit records. Disabling sync stops the connection; it does not itself delete existing cloud data. Do not treat it as a cloud-erasure control. Apple and other storage providers apply their own retention rules.

Keep backups of important data. Copying Markdown alone does not preserve all app-owned relationships. Do not use real important notes to test this beta’s unverified cross-device recovery.

Security

CaliNote uses Apple platform protections and the permissions granted to the app. No method of storage is completely secure. Protect access to your device, Apple Account, and backups.

Your choices and rights

You can manage notes using the app’s available editing and export controls, choose whether to enable sync, and revoke Calendar or Reminders permission in Apple settings. Contact us if a data request cannot be completed through available app or Apple controls. Do not send your full note library with the request.

If privacy law in your country or region, including the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, gives you additional rights, those rights remain available. Email jxp@yorkglobal.co.uk for a privacy question that cannot be resolved through your device or storage provider. Depending on applicable law, you may also have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) or your local data-protection authority.

Children

CaliNote is a general productivity application and is not directed to children. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

Material changes will be reflected by updating this document and its effective date. The current policy is published on the CaliNote website.
